Less than a year after filming began in Holland, What’s Wrong with Virginia is set to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September. The movie stars Ed Harris, Jennifer Connelly, Emma Roberts and Amy Madigan. It was directed by Academy Award-winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black, and produced by TicTock Studios of Saugatuck. “It’s definitely exciting to see everyone’s hard work come to fruition with a red-carpet premiere at such a prestigious event,” TicTock co-founder Scott Brooks said. TicTock’s other co-founder, Hopwood DePree, said it’s always been a goal of his to have a film at Toronto’s festival, which is Sept. 9-19. DePree, Brooks and around 30 more Holland area residents plan to make the trip to Toronto to show support for the film. What’s Wrong with Virginia is a story of a small town shaken by a love affair between the local sheriff and a psychologically disturbed woman. The affair continues for years until their two children begin to fall in love. The film was shot over seven weeks last fall on local streets, and in local homes and businesses. It was drawn to West Michigan by the state’s incentive program aimed at building the entertainment industry.
